Push and Pull

Inspiration came from the directional traffic on the adjacent I-90 bridge and the strike-skip faults of the seismically active Pacific Northwest. This project, also known as the “Push / Pull” House, is composed of concrete bearing walls that hold wood-framed volumes which are alternatively pushed and pulled in plan and section creating a directional shift.

On this narrow site, layers of privacy have been created by carving away walls to provide courtyards which allow natural light to enter the interior without exposing the inhabitants.
